Welcome to Coke studio: Hear it to believe it.

Coke Studio embodies a musical fusion of exciting elements and diverse influences, ranging from traditional eastern, modern western and regionally inspired music.

Let me make it clearer. One chap thought of a concept wherein various music artists just come together, jam and perform. Another chap thought why not air these sessions on TV and make some bucks out of it. And you know what, it worked!

“Coke studio”, the name might sound stupid to some, funny to others. Someone even suggested that it is the name of a new pesticide! But I feel it’s cool in its own weird way. Now let’s talk about their sessions. I have just two words for what they play: Brilliant improvisation. They invite various artists across Pakistan and work on their songs. By the time they finish, the songs have been transformed so beautifully in a way which you cannot even imagine! Total rearrangement of music. You will have to listen to them to appreciate fully. Its like a sanjeevani booti for any ardent lover of music. For not-so-ardent-music-lovers, it’ll just be good pleasing and soothing music. If nothing else, watch their episodes for the two chicks who provide backing vocals and harmony.

Coke studio has paid me nothing to advertise their content through my blog or my google-talk. Its just that, since it is not being telecast in India, I want people out here to be aware that such brilliant stuff exists. Here’s my crib: Why not in India? Why are we fed that foolish saas-bahu crap day in and day out? These soaps have become such an obsession that every episode is telecast four times a day. No kidding. I’m not sure whether its the viewers’ obsession or the producer’s dirty trick (you know, if fed in large frequent quantities, even bitter medicine starts tasting good).

Anyway, I hope I get to see such shows in India soon. Although I can’t help but write a sweet little note to President Zardari: “There’s a lot of amazing talent possessed by people of your country. Encourage THEM and not ISI.”

Coke studio is into its season 2 now. I wish them success and hope they continue to provide good music.

Before I bid good-bye, I would insist you all to listen to their songs. It’s free download if you will. My strong recommendations:

hmm! seems to be a nice concept, but how do they transform their songs exactly? shed some light on that.

hey, i liked the name - 'coke studio' and loved the logo.

@KG: It can't really be expressed in words as to how they transform the song. You will have to listen to the original version and their version of the song to understand.
Thanks :)

Nice!

Please do something about the colour of links of your blog too. It's irritating blue!

Nice posts. Continue the trend even after your vacation joblessness is over.
Btw, dont keep such a large header.

@CC: Thanks man! It took a lot of effort to make that background. You bet coke studio is nice! Also season 2 is better than season 1, I believe. Listen to it.

@Shruti: Thanks. Header has been kept large on purpose.

liked the new design!

the enormous header which occupies the entire first page on a black backdrop looks awesome!

(though not necessary, i'd like to suggest filling the text'Life within 61 Keys' with some brighter colour)

also liked the tiny add-ons that you've installed on the page

@KG: Thanks man! :)
Although I liked the color of the text 'Life....'. Wanted to put that in some gray shade. I know the header is big, but thats how important music is in my life. Gives that msg across.
I am looking for a topic, not related to music, for my next post. Any suggestions?

Coke studio is nice concept because of the amazing songs they perform.I guess its not the case with India. It doesn't work.
Its not that we don't have talent. We have lost the taste
Anywayz nice blog and an awesome header

@Chaitu: I agree that we have a lot of talent in here too. Its not that the songs composed here (for movies, lets say) are bad. We have amazing composers here. We should have such shows here - my only point!
Thanks :)

I was looking up zeb and haniya and came across this video of coke studio. The first thing I did was google 'Coke studio India' (which is what led me to this blog, btw) I can't even bring myself to watch the crap on TV here. More power to the Pakistani broadcasting people. There should an Indo-Pak Coke studio. It'd be brilliant.
